Shape Run!

2 Sundays ago, I dragged myself up from my precious sleep at 6am and headed down to Esplanade with Sis for the Shape Run. We had registered for this like few months back and every week since then we told ourselves that we should resume our aerobics and start going to the gym to train for this event. But 2 months later, we had not even stepped into Amore.... I had serious reservations and doubts about the 5km run we had to do that morning, considering I had not exercised for months! I told myself, just do it, even if I walked the whole 5km, it would be quite something already.

Arrived at Esplanade and saw a sea of orange (the sponsored Nike running tee was bright orange, not unlike the life vests that one usually wears for seasports or the reflective vests the workers wear when laying the roads in the wee hours of the morning). Seriously, can't they choose a sweeter colour like pink or purple? After all this was a women-only run rite? Cannot be more feminine a bit meh? There were women from all walks of life, of all shapes and sizes, getting ready for the run. What amazed me was the number of men accompanying their wives/girlfriends to the run, armed with cameras to photograph this historical moment in their lives. These men can be bothered. (Ok, I'm being cynical...I actually thought that was a pretty sweet gesture la....)

When the run was flagged off, the hordes of women moved at snail's pace, I think i only passed the official starting line after like 3 minutes??? And, I actually started jogging! Me and sis decided we could jog half the distance and walk the rest. Not bad leh, ultimately, we managed to jog a good 3+km and walked the rest. Actually I could still continue but I felt a tad lazy and Sis was getting a little stitches so we just strolled and smelt the roses along the way. Haha.

So approximately 45min later, we reached the finishing line and headed for Marina Square where Mike was waiting for us. Collected our goodie bag and then left for Old Airport Road for some breakfast, after which I went home and took a good warm bath. And the rest of the day was spent slacking and sleeping on the sofa. I think it was more of the waking up so early rather than the run that made me super tired.....

For the next few days, I bore the brunt of the lack of exercise before this big run, cos I was practically dragging myself when walking! My thighs were aching like crazy and each time I stood up to walk after sitting down for too long, I had this excruciating pain in my thighs....can die! I vowed I would resume exercise once I recovered from these aches....(alas 2 weeks later, I am still exercise-free...hahaha!) Ok la, I will try la.....

Me trying to hide my early-morning face haha!My bib number....4D anyone? =p
